A fascinating new release that has much to offer its young adult readers and book lovers in general
FORT WORTH, TX, May 01, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ — It’s not unusual for screenplays to be written based on Novels. However, CAPTAIN FIN a novel by Amanda M. Thrasher is based on a screenplay by Kevin James O’Neill; the process was inverted. So exactly how did all this transpire?
Actor, Director, and Producer, Kevin James O’Neill began writing and directing films twelve years ago. One of his first stories was Captain Fin. He eventually wrote and directed it as a short film. After success in film festivals, he wrote a feature-length script. Kevin James O’Neill stated. “It wasn’t until I was introduced to Amanda M. Thrasher years later that I would see the depths that this story could really go.” After the novel was completed, Thrasher sent O’Neill a draft copy. He was pleased. “Amanda has molded the lead character, Hannah, into a beautifully enriched soul with incredible layers. Amanda’s novel goes so much deeper into the life that Hannah leads after so much misfortune fell upon her as a little girl. Her story takes us on a gripping journey as she weaves us through Hannah’s unrelenting pursuit of her past. Amanda’s kind and caring soul is so deeply embedded in this amazing novel… it will touch people on so many levels.” – Kevin James O’Neill – Olive Ranch Road Productions
The most significant differences between the novel and the screenplay are details that capture Hannah’s early childhood, creating a backstory that allows the reader a glimpse into her past. Eventually, they will walk with Hannah, her family, and friends, during her turbulent adolescent years. Typically brought to life via actors on screen, the novelist, Thrasher, brings emotion, characters, and narration to life via words. For a visual understanding of the differences, screenplays seem skeletal compared to any novel. The screenplay CAPTAIN FIN is 69 pages, while the novel CAPTAIN FIN is 432 pages. It is an emotional roller-coaster of the best kind, and this book with its twists and turns is not just for YA readers; it offers something for everyone!
Hannah Gunner, once a carefree child, is faced with secrets, lies, and betrayal. A life-changing event during her adolescent years forces her to confront a past that she no longer recognizes. Now, questioning everything she thought she knew, Hannah struggles with the person she is supposed to be! With the help of her boyfriend, Grayson Parks, nicknamed Cash, and her closest friend, Lindsey, they discover several clues that may hold the missing links to her life.
A tattered box filled with worn-out letters holds some of the answers that she needs, but not all of them! With an assist from her aunt and a visitor from her past, Hannah manages to track down the only person in the world who can answer her questions–the Captain! Why did those closest to her lie in the first place? Will Hannah ever find the answers that she needs to bring her peace? What people are saying about CAPTAIN FIN:
“Captain Fin by Amanda M. Thrasher is a perfect young adult fiction where you have a powerful protagonist, trusty friends and a mystery to solve. I loved the storyline and I loved how well the characters meshed together. Hannah, Lindsey, and Cash made a great team together; their chemistry and their ability to work together just made the novel even more interesting. YA fiction can easily go horribly wrong, but Thrasher did something incredibly right with this one.” – Rabia Tanveer for Readers’ Favorite
“Captain Fin is artistry in words! The reader feels the emotion and temperament of each character vividly! This story is tender, honest, and keeps the reader’s curiosity alive! I was consistently engaged which provided fluid passage throughout the novel! I was reading through my tears more than once! It is masterful!” – Sue Nodler Hamideh
“This is a fascinating tale that certainly has much to offer its young adult readers, with likeable lead characters, hidden treasure and secrets, as well as important social issues about growing up, learning who you really are and having that sense of self-put to the test by the information and people you face in the wider world. Hannah is an endearing lead character whom author Amanda M. Thrasher makes very likable and relatable, and I enjoyed the unreliability of the memories and secrets she has to deal with.” – K.C. Finn for Readers’ Favorite
