New VIP Rome Tour Allows Privileged Access to Famous Restoration Lab

ROME, ITALY, September 20, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ — Roma Experience is proud to announce the launch of its new Restoring Caravaggio Tour in collaboration with the Restoration Lab Merlini-Storti.

Roma Experience is a tour operator specialized in guided tours of Rome and Vatican. “One of our key missions, when we formed our company, was to provide visitors with unique experiences”, says Davide Bolognesi, Marketing Manager. “Participants have already expressed how they found this new tour in Rome’s city center not only unique but an absolute privilege,” he added.

This tour was created to provide a behind the scenes look at how one of the top restoration labs in Italy return paintings to their original splendor conveying both the message and emotions the painter had in mind.

During the Restoring Caravaggio Tour you will walk the “Caravaggio Path” in Rome city center, stopping along the way in three churches which house some of Caravaggio’s greatest masterpieces, including the Cycle of St Matthew, the Conversion of St Paul, and the striking Madonna dei Pellegrini, which has long been a favorite of the people of Rome and is actually one of his paintings restored by the partner lab.

The tour ends providing guests a behind-the-scenes exclusive tour of the lab where they can learn about the techniques and knowledge required to restore artworks to their original glory. Visitors will experience how to create the colors used centuries ago as well as how to clean the surface of 500 years old masterpieces.

The Merlini-Storti Restoration Lab was founded in 1989 by Valeria Merlini and Daniela Storti, two of the most important restorers in Italy. Among their works, there is the restoration of three Caravaggio paintings and the frescoes in the papal apartments. “Our mission is to bring people closer to art through a more intimate way to experience it,” says Arianna Pavoncello, Lab Coordinator.

The Restoring Caravaggio Experience starts at € 245/per person and runs every day except Saturday and Sunday.
