Use of Orthobiologic Supplementation Greatly Improves Recovery Results after Lumbar Micro-Discectomy
BOTHELL, WA, February 13, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ — Spine Institute Northwest founder Solomon Kamson, MD, Ph.D., was recently published in The Journal of Clinical Medicine Research for a 7-year long study revealing positive results of the use of orthobiologic supplementation during endoscopic-assisted lumbar decompression surgery.
The study reveals that injecting orthobiologics like amniotic-derived products (ADP) and bone marrow aspiration (BMA) into the surgery site during endoscopic-assisted lumbar decompression surgery results in improved pain control.
In this level 1 evidence-based original research work, 269 patients underwent endoscopic-assisted lumbar decompressive surgery and were randomized to receive ADP, BMA, both, or no supplementation. Up to 12 months after surgery, patients who had received ADP, BMA, or both showed significant improvement compared to the results of those in the control group. The results displayed the safety, efficacy, and effectiveness of the use of injectable orthobiologics in the treatment of annular tissue defects.
